The City of Worcester has signed a contract for software that will allow residents, organizations and businesses to apply for and receive permits online.
Belmont-based ViewPoint Engineering will supply the software.
All city permit processes will be managed by the new system, including building, electrical, gas and plumbing permits; fire inspection permits; license commission permits; planning, zoning and conservation permits; public health permits and others.
The city will use the system to manage permit reviews, approvals and inspections. All city departments will have access to the system.
Applicants will be able to apply, pay for and receive permits online or at kiosks located in public buildings and will no longer be required to shuttle applications from department to department.
The system will be phased in over the coming weeks.
