Niche Hospitality is closing the Citizen Wine Bar, Still & Stir and The People’s Kitchen at the end of the year.
The Worcester restaurant group announced the closings Wednesday afternoon, attributing the closings to a recent sale of the building at One Exchange Place.
“The building that houses the popular restaurant, One Exchange Place, is currently going through a transition, and the group felt it was the right time to take the opportunity to evaluate their position in the upscale casual/fine-dining segment,” Niche said in a press release.
The 60,000-square-foot building was sold on Oct. 31 for $2.5 million to BradyMac Capital Advisory. The firm’s co-founder Hugh Mclaughlin told WBJ at the time all current tenants would remain as the firm eyed up to $500,000 in upgrades.
The building also houses Michael’s Cigar Bar on the ground floor and other businesses on upper floors.
The Citizen Wine Bar opened in May 2008, followed by the People’s Kitchen in 2010. Cocktail bar Still & Stir opened in 2012.
All three concepts will be closed as of Jan. 1, Niche Hospitality said.
In a statement, Niche Hospitality President Michael Covino said the company will continue to grow with Worcester and explore new opportunities for expansion.
“In the meantime, we are looking forward to celebrating The Citizen for the rest of the year with all of you,” he said.
The restaurant is preparing a special four-course holiday menu to offer in conjunction with a pop-up bar through New Year’s Eve.
