Cisco Systems Inc., which has significant operations in Boxborough, said it intends to acquire Newton-based software firm ExtendMedia for an undisclosed sum.
ExtendMedia software develops content management systems that manage online video.
Cisco, which is based in San Jose, Calif., said the acquisition will allow the company to help service providers deliver multi-screen IP video. Cisco said consumers will soon expect “multi-screen engagement” as part of a “rich user experience.”
The acquisition is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2011. The majority of ExtendMedia’s employees will be brought into Cisco’s Service Provider Video Technology Group.”
