Church pays $1.5M for Acton site

A church has bought a four-acre site on Routes 2A/119 in Acton for more than $1.5 million.

The property formerly housed a dental office in one building, and a restaurant and karate studio in another. The restaurant, a Chinese eatery named Makaha, closed July 28.

The site at 255-257 Great Road was bought by Highrock Convenant Church for a new church campus, according to O'Brien Commercial Properties.

The real estate was bought for $1.4 million in a sale closed Aug. 2. The church paid an additional $135,000 for the restaurant, said Eric O'Brien, the founder and president of O'Brien Commercial Properties.

The church was searching for a new home where it could expand for more than a year, O'Brien said. Church services have been held Sunday mornings at Gates Elementary School on Spruce Street in Acton.

The Great Road site, across from Donelan's Supermarket, was formerly owned by A.R. Belli Realty, which is registered to Karen Keaveney of Newton. It was last assessed by the town at nearly $1.6 million.
