Power and influence are familiar territory for Christopher Egan. He is the son of high-tech pioneer Richard Egan, who co-founded data-storage equipment maker EMC Corp. in 1979. Egan grew up partly at EMC, the now-$22-billion company that began as a reseller of office furniture. He recalls heading from high school to wrestling practice to his dad's business, where he cleaned the office and assembled and delivered furniture. Chris and his brother, Michael Egan, formed the real estate investment firm Carruth Capital LLC in 1991.
Carruth Capital manages about three million square feet of office space.
From 2007 to 2009, Egan served as ambassador to the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He successfully reduced the U.S. investment in that organization by convincing 29 other countries to cover more of its budget.
POLITICAL POWER
Egan has been very involved in the state' political scene. He was a finance chair for the campaign committee supporting Charles Baker's unsuccessful 2010 run for governor.
