Bri’s Sweet Treats, a Leicester-based chocolatier owned by Briana Azier, will open a location in the Worcester Public Market, expecting to begin serving her products in mid-January.
Azier operates a licensed commercial kitchen in her home and offers her treats wholesale, while selling at festivals and pop-ups as well.
During a pop-up event in the Worcester Public Market, executive director Domenic Mercurio asked Azier if she would like a shop at the public market because the previous candy shop, The Sweet Life, was leaving the venue.
“It was not the plan,” said Azier, “but I guess it was God’s plan.”
Azier is looking forward to seeing her customers that follow her to different venues on a consistent basis.
“I want my staff to know the customers’ names and learn their orders,” said Azier.
Azier will continue to offer her products wholesale to businesses. She plans on hiring two to five new staff members between her production and retail operations.
Azier aims to open a second retail location in the future, though the wholesale business will account for 80-85% of sales. She wants to become the go-to candy source for corporate gifts in Central Massachusetts.
Azier started her business in February 2021 after discovering a love for making treats with her son during December 2020. She was inspired by Proverbs 31 in Bible study to provide for her family using skills she already possessed.
Azier learned more about running a business through Lowell-based nonprofit Entrepreneurship for All and from Worcester State University Center for Entrepreneurship’s Upskill Program, offered in collaboration with the Worcester Regional Food Hub.
