Chinese biotech opens U.S. subsidiaries in Natick

What is touted as the largest Chinese biotech company opened the doors of its first U.S. subsidiaries over the weekend in Natick as company officials seek to enter the U.S. market.

The location at 21 Strathmore Road will house the corporate offices and laboratories for VCANBIO USA and VCANBIO Center for Translational Biotechnology. These entities represent the launching of U.S. operations for parent company VCANBIO Cell & Engineering Corporation Ltd., which is focused on cell therapy and precision medicine, according to a release. The ribbon cutting for the U.S. location took place Saturday.

“Expanding operations into the United States is a momentous occasion for VCANBIO, the largest Chinese biotechnology company and the first company to offer cord blood storage in China,” Yong Wang, Chairman of VCANBIO USA and VCANBIO Center for Translational Biotechnology, said in a statement. “We are eager to begin building relationships and contributing to the robust biotech community in Massachusetts and the larger United States.”

VCANBIO USA will focus on cell and immunotherapies. The translational center is a service agency that identifies promising developments at various stages and helps develop them into therapies, according to a release.
