Charlton Health Care Facility Considers Wind Power

The Overlook Life Care Community in Charlton says it is on its way to becoming the first health care facility in the country to be powered by commercial-scale wind turbines.

Through the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative's Large Onsite Renewables Initiative, Overlook has commissioned a feasibility study by Sustainable Energy Development Inc. of Ontario, N.Y.

Overlook asked to be considered as a location for wind power in an effort to save money at its 450-acre campus. Wind power would pay for the project's estimated $4.5 million cost in 10 years. During the 25-year lifetime of a 1.5 megawatt turbine, Overlook expects to save about $10 million in electricity costs.
