Charitable giving to United States charities is set to outpace a record 2013 donation year by 9 percent, according to a recent report.
The report from Atlas of Giving projects that donations will exceed $450 billion in 2014, a 9 percent increase over the record $416 billion donated in 2013. The largest gains were seen by human services organizations, educational institutions and environmental causes, with each category experiencing double-digit growth in donations, according to the forecast of charitable giving.
The majority of U.S. giving, at 74 percent, is by individuals. Foundations are currently the fastest growing source of donations, according to Atlas of Giving, with foundation giving expected to increase more than 12 percent in 2014 to a total of more than $65 billion.
