CeQur, a Swiss medical device company with corporate offices in Marlborough, has acquired the assets of a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary for an undisclosed price.
California-based Calibra Medical, formerly part of Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Care Companies, is now under control of CeQur.
The transaction is built around Calibra Medical’s OneTouch Via, a wearable on-demand insulin delivery system.
CeQur will relaunch the device under a new name sometime in mid-2019 after manufacturing equipment is transferred to the new company.
The FDA-approved system allows people with diabetes to discreetly and conveniently deliver rapid-acting insulin at mealtime, CeQur said in Tuesday's announcement.
In a statement, CEO Robert Farra said the Calibra device pairs perfectly with PAQ, the company’s basal and bolus insulin-infusion device.
“This device will enable us to begin reaching the diabetes community with simple, discreet, three-day insulin delivery that will free people from having to inject multiple times per day," Farra said.
