CEOs Pessimistic About Rest Of Year

The Conference Board says CEOs were slightly more confident about economic conditions in the second quarter than they were in the first quarter.

But the board's Measure of CEO Confidence index still scored only a 39 out of 100 during the period. That was up from a score of 38 in the first quarter. The last time the index fell below 38 was in 2000, when it dipped to 31.

The board said CEOs expect continued slow growth in the economy for the remainder of the year. Their outlook for the next six months was "mixed, but generally pessimistic," the board said.
