Scott Grimmett, CEO of Price Chopper's parent company Northeast Grocery, Inc., is retiring after a decade working with Price Chopper/Market 32, the New York grocery chain announced on Wednesday.
Grimmett’s retirement marks the end of a 48-year career in the retail grocery industry, including overseeing the merger between Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Markets, also based in New York. Prior to working with Price Chopper/Market 32, he spent 38 years working for California supermarket company Safeway.
Grimmett will be replaced by Tops Markets CEO Frank Curci, per the announcement. No transition date was announced.
Price Chopper operates several markets in Central Massachusetts, including in Webster, Worcester, and Spencer.
Curci has served as CEO of Tops for 14 years, per the announcement, including working with Grimmett during the merger process. Together, Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops operate nearly 300 stores across six states in the northeastern United States.
