Healthcare provider Century Homecare announced Wednesday it has promoted its co-founder and chief clinical officer to CEO, as the previous CEO is taking on more responsibilities in a sister company.
James Njoroge, who was former CEO of the Worcester home healthcare provider, saidco-founder, chief clinical officer and his wife Milka Njoroge has transitioned into the CEO role after a yearlong changeover period. James Njoroge will stay on as the company’s chief information officer.
For the past five years, James Njoroge served as CEO of both Century and Worcester-based Elgon Information Systems, which provides software to home healthcare providers. But business has picked up at Elgon, and because of that, the company requires more attention, he said.
“As a client of Elgon, Century is a great resource as it provides the industry perspective -- not to mention rich feedback on software,” said James Njoroge. “My role will be to ensure maximum efficiency using the latest technology for Century. I also want other healthcare companies to have the same tools as century. ”
The Njoroges wanted to eliminate any perceived conflict of interest, as many of Elgon’s clients are competitors of Century.
“Since the introduction of prior authorization and other changes by MassHealth, demand for [Elgon product] Homecare GPS has grown for there is no other electronic medical record system on the market that supports the [prior authorization] process. Having separate leadership is critical to winning client confidence,” he said.
