Workforce development offices in Worcester and Marlborough have gotten a combined $105,000 in state funding as part of a program to help youth with career advancement.
The MassHire Central Massachusetts Workforce Board in Worcester received $62,000 for training and career exploration in advanced manufacturing for 15 Worcester Public Schools high school students. The program, done in partnership with the Worcester Community Action Council, will lead students through a machine operations course and pursue workplace safety certifications.
The MassHire Metro South/West Workforce Board in Marlborough received $42,627 to provide certified nursing assistant training for 10 students and two out-of-school youth in a program sponsored by the federal Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act. Partners in the program include MassBay Community College, the American Red Cross, Mary Ann Morse Healthcare Center, and Heritage Assisted Living.
In all, state funding totaling $740,000 will benefit at least 165 youth through training for careers in advanced manufacturing, early childhood education, financial services, health care and other areas. The funding was announced by the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration on Sept. 11.
