The unemployment rate across Central Massachusetts remained low through September, continuing a downward trend carried over from the summer months.
Unemployment levels in the Worcester metropolitan area decreased by four-tenths of a percentage point to 2.6% from August, a full percentage point lower than September of 2022, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data released on Tuesday by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
In the Framingham area, unemployment was at 2.2%, down from 2.5% in August and from 3% last year.
The Leominster-Gardner area ticked down half a percentage point compared to August, reaching 2.7%. In September 2022, it was at 4%.
Unemployment in the Athol micropolitan area fell by half of a percentage point month-over-month, settling at 3% for September. It is more than a full percentage point lower than the same month last year, when the unemployment rate was 4.1%
All but one labor market in the state saw a decrease in unemployment between August and September, according to BLS data. In the Vineyard Haven micropolitan area, unemployment levels were unchanged month-over-month, staying at 2.0%
