July unemployment rates fell in Worcester, Framingham and Fitchburg-Leominster-Gardner areas, according to data released today by the state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
Combined unemployed in those areas fell to 6.9 percent compared to 7.8 percent in July 2011, according to the seasonally unadjusted estimates.
The seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate, released last week, was up a tenth of one percent to 6.1 percent.
In Central Massachusetts metropolitan areas measured by state and federal economists, 334 more people were employed in July than they were a year ago, while 5,088 less people were unemployed. The area’s labor force shrank by 4,754.
Area communities with the highest unemployment rates in July were mainly in northern Worcester County, including Fitchburg (9.9 percent), Templeton (9.6 percent), Gardner and Phillipston (9.2 percent) and Millville (9 percent).
