Central Mass. receives $40,000 grant for paid STEM internships
The Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board and the city of Worcester are one of five recipients of $200,000 in state grants to help increase internship opportunities in STEM fields for high school students.
With the grant, the Central Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board will design a marketing campaign to boost employer involvement in paid internships. The program will receive support from the Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MassMEP), the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce and other local groups.
Over 400 companies will be asked to participate in paid internships in science, technology, engineering and math, according to a press release from Gov. Charlie Baker’s office.
The two-year grants are worth $40,000 per grantee each year, according to the release.
Other boards receiving grants are the North Shore Workforce Investment Board, the Franklin Hampshire Regional Employment Board, the Regional Employment Board of Hampden County Inc. and the Boston Private Industry Council.
