Central Mass. Physicians Receive Health Records Grant

The Central Massachusetts Independent Physician Association (CMIPA) has received a $75,000 grant from the Massachusetts eHealth Institute to help physicians with the organization connect to the state’s electronic Health Information Highway, known as Mass HIway.

A collaboration between the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services and the eHealth Institute, also a state entity, Mass HIway enables doctors, hospitals, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing facilities and insurers to share health record information electronically. The venture was designed to help improve patient care and reduce costs.

In June, the MetroWest Physician Alliance was awarded the same grant.

CMIPA said in a statement it will pilot the program using two primary care providers and a skilled nursing facility, with a long-term goal of connecting all of its members to the Mass HIway.

“We at CMIPA are excited about the opportunity that will be created by this grant, which will give our physicians the opportunity to begin to communicate electronically-secure patient information with health care providers within Worcester and outside of our community in a safe and reliable fashion,” said Gail Sillman, CMIPA executive vice president.
