Central Mass. nonprofits share $383K of state small-business grants

Seven nonprofits in Central Massachusetts will share $383,000 among more than $2 million statewide given by the Baker Administration to help small businesses.
The Massachusetts Growth Capital Corp.'s Small Business Technical Assistance Grant Program is aimed at expanding economic and entrepreneurial opportunities in under-served communities such as Gateway Cities like Worcester and Fitchburg. Each of the several dozen grants ranged from $10,000 to $120,000 to each organization, with the funding going toward business management assistance, financial training, microloans and loan packaging services.
The grants were announced Friday at Strong Style Coffee, a small business recently benefitting from technical assistance through the Small Business Technical Assistance Grant Program and NewVue Communities, a Fitchburg nonprofit.
In all, seven organizations were given funding:
— Ascentria Community Services, Worcester health provider for families, children and those with disabilities, $20,000
— Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, Whitinsville group advocating for Blackstone Valley businesses, $70,000.
— NewVue Communities, Fitchburg social services nonprofit, $75,000
— North Central Massachusetts Development Corp., a lending and financing arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, $42,000
— Quaboag Valley Community Development Corp., a Ware economic development nonprofit, $60,000
— South Middlesex Opportunity Council, Martin Luther King, Jr. Business Empowerment Center, Framingham advocate for low-income residents, $61,000
— Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts, Worcester organization supporting immigrants, refugees and others from Southeast Asia, $55,000
