LL Flooring, a Virginia-based flooring supply company formerly known as Lumber Liquidators Flooring, is set to close all three of its stores in Central Massachusetts after the business was unable to find the right buyer following a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
Locations in Framingham, Leominster, and Shrewsbury will be among the more than 400 LL Flooring stores across the country to close, after the company determined liquidating its assets would provide more value to creditors than sales to any prospective bidders, according to a notice published to the company’s website in early September.
“This is not the outcome that any of us had hoped for,” a letter to customers on LL Flooring’s website reads. “Since 1993, LL Flooring has been at the forefront of crafting beautiful spaces, supporting customers every step of the way – from finding the right material to arranging safe, expert installation.”
Clearance sales will begin on Friday, with stores expected to shut down by the end of November.
LL Flooring changed its name from Lumber Liquidators in 2021. The company has faced a number of issues over the past decade, including a 2015 “60 Minutes” investigation which found the company’s products exceed regulatory standards for formaldehyde, a finding that led to a class-action lawsuit and a $33-million penalty for misleading investors, according to CNN.
