Auburn
For restoration work recently completed on the historic Uxbridge Inn in Uxbridge, Auburn-based Builders Systems Inc. was recognized with a merit award in historical building renovation from the Associated Builders and Contractors at its 2007 Excellence in Construction Awards. The $3.7 million dollar renovation project turned the former inn at 6 North Main St. into a branch of Southbridge-based Savers Bank. Builders Systems gutted the entire 35,000-square-foot building, which dates to 1880 and is on the Register of National Historic Sites. An entirely new steel superstructure was added to the building.
Devens
Integrated Process Technologies Inc. is taking on a 9,000-square-foot renovation project at the former U.S. Army base in Devens. The company has called on Senate Construction Corp. of Shirley to do the job, which will build out what was once a recreation center at the Army base. The project is the second Senate has done for IPT, which is headquartered in Devens, in the last two years.
Fitchburg
Fitchburg sensor manufacturer Arrhythmia Research Technology Inc. reported a one percent bump in total revenue for the third quarter of this year, but an 18 percent decline in net income, compared to the third quarter of 2006. The company reported total revenue of $4.46 million and net income of $420,000 for the third quarter of this year. In the third quarter of 2006, total revenue stood at $4.41 million and net income was $510,000.
Framingham
Maryland-based private equity fund American Capital Strategies Ltd. has opened an office in Framingham as part of an effort to expand its technology investment activities on the east coast. The company's Framingham office, part of the American Capital Technology Group, will be led by Miles Arnone, who will act as managing director of the office. Patrick Gallagher, a 14-year veteran of the company, will join Arnone as principal of the technology group. American Capital Strategies is the largest publicly traded private equity fund in the country.
Gardner
Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner wants to help its students join the growing ranks of renewable energy workers, and it's looking far afield for tips. All the way to Germany. Ed Terceirio, the college's executive vice president, will join a delegation of 12 U.S. educators, engineers and congressional staffers heading to the country in December. The tour, sponsored by Germany's Ministry of Education and Research and the Heinrich Böll Foundation of North America, will give participants a chance to learn how Germany trains its renewable energy work force.
Holliston
An 84,000-square-foot office and warehouse building in Holliston has sold for $5 million. 89 October Hill Road LLC purchased the property at, coincidentally, 89 October Hill Road, in the New Englander Industrial Park, from Laurel Branch Realty Trust. The building, located along Rt. 126, is accessible to both Interstate 495 and the Mass Pike. R.W. Holmes realty, which represented the seller, has been retained as the leasing and management agent for the site. There are currently 6,000-square-foot and 12,000-square-foot units available, according to Holmes.
Milford
The Price Chopper Plaza in Webster has been sold to Cedar Shopping Centers Inc. of New York for $17.6 million according to Boston commercial real estate broker Jones Lang LaSalle, which represented the seller. The 102,000-square-foot plaza is located at the intersection of I-395 and Route 12. Tenants include Price Chopper Supermarket, Fashion Bug, Papa Gino's, D'Angelo's and a freestanding Burger King. Cedar currently owns and operates 114 properties throughout New England and the Mid-Atlantic.
