The state plans to allocate $171 million for construction projects on 25 bridges in Central Massachusetts, according to an initial list posted by Gov. Charlie Baker.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to invest more than $3 billion repairing a total of 146 bridges in the state. The program is funded by the infrastructure law signed by President Joe Biden in November, as well as $1.25 billion from a bridge program in last year’s transportation bonding bill.
The City of Worcester will receive two grants -- one for bridge reconstruction along Laurel Street and one for superstructure replacement over East Central Street, at roughly $12.5 million and $24.7 million respectively.
Fitchburg will be granted nearly $21 million for bridge replacement and preservation.
Auburn is receiving a total of $26 million for two projects, while Bellingham, Boxborough, and Dudley are each allotted more than $10 million.
The new transportation bond bill funding the bridge repairs is set to be filed in the coming weeks.
