Toronto-based CCL Industries Inc., a global label and packaging company, said it has acquired a UK company under its Avery segment, which has operations in Framingham.
Label Connections Ltd., a private company based in Cambridge, England, designs, manufactures and markets under the PCL brand, making a range of pre-die cut pressure-sensitive labels for use on professional digital printers, CCL said.
Label Connections Ltd. will trade under the Avery UK umbrella but continue to use the PCL brand, according to the company. The purchase price totals about $2.4 million in assumed debt and cash.
CCL Industries acquired Avery Dennison’s former Office & Consumer Products business from Avery Dennison in 2013. Avery Dennison, which was once headquartered in Framingham but is now a global company based in California, has since moved its remaining operations to Westborough.
“We are pleased to announce this first expansion by acquisition to the Avery business with this interesting extension to our … product line, which we intent to introduce on a global basis,” CCL president and CEO Geoffrey T. Martin said in a statement.
“Professional digital printing is the fastest growing sector in the commercial graphic arts market, to which we will now bring all the design software, label, materials and printer compatibility know-how from Avery’s long history in desktop digital printing,” Martin added.
With corporate offices in Framingham and Toronto, CCL Industries employs more than 10,000 people, and has 97 production facilities in 28 countries.
