The Cannabis Control Commission will be making its decision on where to locate its headquarters in Worcester by the end of this month, according to city officials.
Michael Traynor, the city's chief development officer, told the Worcester Redevelopment Authority on Wednesday a decision from the state’s recreational marijuana regulating agency, through the state’s Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance, is imminent.
One of those possible locations is Union Station. The city responded to the CCC’s request for proposals issued in April for at least 13,000 square feet of space in Worcester. There’s more than enough vacant space in the building.
Traynor said Wednesday the CCC has about 10 other proposals to consider, but added that state officials did a walkthrough of the Union Station site last week.
Traynor told the WRA in April there’s about 15,000 square feet of space to house the agency in Union Station. That was before engineering firm VHB said it would move its Union Station office to the Mercantile Center.
The CCC, the state agency set up to oversee the legal sale of recreational marijuana products, is seeking a 10-year lease for an office consisting of about 50 employees.
The RFP said it is looking for a location accessible via public transportation.
