Longtime prominent Worcester businessman Frank Carroll has been honored for his business career and charitable work by Anna Maria College.

The Paxton school gave Carroll a special recognition and an honorary degree at its May 11 commencement ceremony.

Carroll founded the Small Business Service Bureau, a national membership organization for small businesses, in 1968. Carroll has said he founded the company after noticing in his travels small businesses needed advocacy help.

He's the chairman and founder of Carroll Enterprises, which helps insurance buyers in the business-to-business and business-to-consumer markets. Both entities are based in Worcester.

Carroll's business expertise has been highly valued over the decades, with the Ford, Carter, Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations appointing him to federal agencies and committees, including the U.S. Department Trade Development Agency. Former U.S. Senator John Kerry named him to the U.S. Small Business Administration National Advisory Council.

Charitable work by Carroll, a Korean War veteran, has included leading the effort to build the Korean War Memorial in downtown Worcester and raising money to build a facility for St. John’s Church's Food for the Poor program in Worcester.
