Caroline’s Cannabis, the first small business woman-owned cannabis retailer in the state to open, is proposing a second location in Hopedale just several months after opening in Uxbridge.
Owner Caroline Frankel met with the town’s Board of Selectmen in July to detail her plans, which call for a near carbon copy of her Uxbridge store in a small business park in Hopedale at 9 Menfi Way.
The store would be the first marijuana retailer to open in Hopedale.
The store "has had nothing but success in Uxbridge,” she said at the July 15 meeting. “I’d like to dedicate the same business model same enthusiasm in Hopedale.”
The meeting was the first step in Frankel’s process of obtaining a host community agreement with the town, which is a legally required agreement intended to mitigate the store’s impact on the town. That document is a prerequisite to applying for a cannabis business license from the Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commission.
The store was the first to open in Uxbridge, and there have been no security issues at the location, she said.
The company sources its products from other licensed cultivators and manufacturers, so each location is simply a small point-of-sale area with product storage behind locked doors.
Frankel detailed security measures, which include a security guard, an extensive camera system, alarms and a front door that is always locked.
Selectmen are expected to review the document and possibly vote on approval at a meeting in August.
