More employers plan to add full-time employees in 2011 than they did in 2010, according to job website CareerBuilder's annual survey.
Twenty-four percent of employers plan to hire full-time, permanent employees in 2011, up from 20 percent in 2010 and 14 percent in 2009. Only 7 percent plan to decrease headcount next year. That's improved slightly from 2009, when 9 percent said they would cut workers in the New Year.
Temporary hiring is also projected to increase. Thirteen percent of employers surveyed said they will hire part-time workers in the next 12 months, which is up from 11 percent in 2010.
If you're in sales, you may be in luck. Nearly 30 percent of those surveyed said they plan to hire in that department in 2011. The other areas that are expected to get an influx of personnel are information technology and customer service.
The Worcester Business Journal's readers were similarly optimistic about hiring in 2011. Forty-percent of respondents to our annual survey said they plan to add personnel next year. That's up from 25 percent last year.
