Care Central VNA & Hospice selects new hospice medical director

Home healthcare provider Care Central VNA & Hospice has selected a professor at UMass Chan Medical School’s Springfield campus to serve as the Gardner-based organization’s new hospice medical director.

Dr. William McGee began his tenure at Care Central in October, providing medical oversight for the nonprofit’s hospice and palliative care programs, according to a Friday press release from the organization.

“We are honored to welcome Dr. McGee to our leadership team,” Holly Chaffee, president and CEO of Care Central, said in the press release. “His expertise, compassion, and deep understanding of hospice medicine will strengthen our ability to serve patients and families with the dignity and respect they deserve.”

McGee comes to Care Central having most recently served as a professor of medicine, surgery, and anesthesiology for the pst six years at UMass Chan-Baystate, UMass Chan’s regional campus at Baystate Health, and as an internist at Baystate Health for the past 36, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He replaces Dr. John Harrington, who retired from the hospice medical director role, said Stacy Rudzinski, Care Central executive assistant.
