CardioFocus Inc., a medical device company, has named a new CEO.
Burke Barrett, 56, who has served as the company’s president and chief operating officer, starts the new job Wednesday. The company previously didn't have a CEO and is led by Executive Chairman Paul LaViolette.
The Marlborough-based firm makes products to help treat irregular heartbeats.
Barrett has more than 30 years of experience in the medical device industry. He joined CardioFocus in 2002, and during his 15 years with the company has held roles of increasing responsibility from vice president to COO. Prior to joining the firm, Barrett was vice president of clinical operations at Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems Inc., a Foxborough medical device company known for its implantable brain-computer interfaces.
Barrett held positions in business development, clinical and regulatory affairs, and quality auditing at Biofield Corp. Dornier Medical Systems, and Bausch & Lomb.
From 2010-2013 he served as the industry representative on the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's Circulatory Systems Device Advisory Panel. He received bachelor's degrees in chemical engineering and chemistry from Syracuse University and an MBA from Kennesaw University in Atlanta.
