Herb Chambers of Auburn Inc. has agreed to pay a $9,000 fine to the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection after damaging a wetland at its Southbridge Street dealership.
The DEP received a complaint that the dealership was cutting trees and shrubs from a wetland that borders the dealership, and piling the plants in the wetland.
DEP issued a cease and desist order to the car dealer, and ordered that the dealer hire a “wetlands specialist to assess the damage and prepare a wetland restoration plan.”
The company complied, and also agreed to pay the $9,000 penalty.
Herb Chambers also has to submit reports on the progress of the wetland restoration work to DEP “to document the success of the restoration work.”
