The Massachusetts cannabis regulatory body has opened the pre-certification application process for marijuana delivery operator licenses, which will be exclusively available to economic empowerment applicants and social equity program participants, the Cannabis Control Commission announced on Friday.

The commission opened applications for its marijuana courier license, formerly known as the delivery-only license, in May 2020.

While the courier license has been likened to an UberEats model of cannabis delivery, delivery operator license holders will be allowed to wholesale cannabis products and sell those directly to consumers.

More than 400 applicants are eligible to apply for delivery licenses, according to the CCC, including 120 economic empowerment applicants and nearly 300 social equity program participants.
