Candi Wolfe: Thinking Differently Leads To Success

Wolfe

Owner, Ericson-Wolfe Photography, Northborough

Who is your most influential role model, and why?

Many amazing people have influenced me in great ways, but the one who stands above all others for me is Brian Tracy. Brian is an author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur and business coach who has been leading people in the area of personal growth and business development for decades now. In addition to his known accomplishments, I also admire his presence. I've spent time with him and was very intrigued by his fairness, directness, and quick-thinking abilities. I've heard him speaking with his staff members behind the scenes and his way of bringing out the best in people is truly an art that few people have mastered.

What has helped you achieve success in your career?

Two major decisions have allowed me to gain success in my career. The first is the decision to not be influenced by peers, co-workers or competitors. The more I research in our industry, the more I experience information overload and "writer's block." My ability to shut the doors, turn off the phone and computer, and plan has been key to the major successful shifts in my businesses. The second decision that had allowed me to experience success in my career is to take a perceived block in my business growth and shift my perception until I see the way around or through it. Without resigning to common beliefs in our industry, I have challenged myself to think differently. If the path to a solution is not coming, then I need to create one even if it has not been done before.

What's your primary motivator; or if there is one thing that makes you tick or ignites a passion within you, what is it?

My biggest passion is personal development. This begins with developing desired qualities within oneself, then extending that into your business. I find the topic of personal growth and power fascinating, and I can see how my business and clients benefit from this.

How does your organization give back to the community, and what role have you played in those efforts?

One way is our membership in the Yellow Ribbon Photographers Organization. This organization provides professional photography at no cost to our nation's servicemen and women. We also have offered our services for a homecoming of a U.S. troop from Afghanistan. At this event, our images were selected by another organization called Guard Support, which assists these families of our troops via direct emergency grants, funding for family support groups and other innovative programs.

Another way we give back is by being part of an organization called Wish Upon a Wedding. This organization provides professional wedding photography at no charge for couples facing a terminal illness.

The roles I've played in this community involvement is to initiate these programs and also be among a list of photographers who is always willing to donate her services.

When the stress level gets too high, how do you ease the pressure?

When stressed over work, I tend to go complain to my dogs. (smile) Since none of them really wants to hear the problems, I tend to just play with them and instantly feel better. Two Papillons and one Siberian Husky is all it takes to have a stressful day become great again!

How have you tried to balance your career and your personal life? Please give an example or two.

This is a challenge for me at the moment. I don't usually have a day off and this is about to change. I have been trying to schedule days off and also make appointments for myself for things like workouts and time at home. I need to make time off a priority so that I can continue to have the energy and desire to give to my businesses while at work.
