Candela settles patent infringement suit with Calif. firm

Wayland medical device maker Candela Corp. has settled a patent infringement lawsuit with California-based InMode.
The companies have reached a worldwide agreement to end the spat, which allows InMode, through a sublicense from Candela, to continue to market its bi-polar fractional RF product line.
The agreement protects Candela’s investment in the development of products in the long-pulse category, the companies said in a joint press release. Other specifics were not disclosed.
Candela’s Profound system is the only device cleared by U.S. regulators for real-tile, temperature controlled long-pulse radio frequency energy to create collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.
InMode’s devices, the Fractora and Morpheus8, are cleared or skin ablation and the resurfacing, coagulation, hemostasis and treatment of wrinkles.
In a statement, Candela CEO Geoffrey Crouse said the company is focused on research and development and will continue to enforce its intellectual property rights.
Candela filed the lawsuit last April against 18 companies, including InMode.
