Candela Corp. in Wayland has reached an exclusive agreement with Freedom-2, a private company specializing in removable ink, to develop a new light-based device to remove Freedom-2 ink tattoos.
Freedom-2 ink is the only patented tattoo ink designed for future removal. Candela Corp. has made a financial investment in Freedom-2 to continue the development of removable inks and fund the marketing activities for Freedom-2's initial product launch.
Candela currently manufactures the AlexLAZR, a device known for effectively removing green, black, and blue tattoo pigments. Candela plans to unveil a new device in February, the AlexTriVantage laser, which can remove a wider range of tattoo colors. Freedom-2 inks will be specifically designed to react to the Candela removal device, which uses a laser to penetrate the skin with light and fragment the tattoo pigment.
