Wayland aesthetic medical device firm Candela Corp. said Wednesday it has acquired a Danish laser-based medical device firm.
Denmark-based Ellipse, which manufactures and sells intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser-based products to treat medical and aesthetic skin treatments, will help expand Candela’s portfolio and strengthen the company’s multi-application and multi-technology advices, Candela said in a news release.
“Candela’s best-in-class laser and energy-based technologies are now coupled with a trusted IPL technology that is well respected by physicians,” said Candela CEO Geoffrey Crouse in a press release. “Ellipse platforms will provide aesthetic practices with a fully scalable multi-application, multi-technology device."
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal focuses around the privately-held Ellipse’s key products, including Nordlys -- a multi-application IPL device used for vascular and pigmented lesions and hair removal.
Other products using IPL-based systems can be used for skin rejuvenation, facial veins and skin resurfacing.
Ellipse joins the larger Candela, which markets in 86 countries with offices in 12 countries, compared to Ellipse, which markets products in fewer than 50 countries.
