David Alward, the consul general of Canada to New England, is scheduled to visit Worcester on Thursday to explore business opportunities between Canada and Central Massachusetts through two site visits.
According to the Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce, Alward will visit the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute at Becker College, followed by a meeting at Euro-American Logistics, the U.S. customs house located at the Worcester Regional Airport.
The visit is a follow-up to an April visit when Alward was the chamber’s guest speaker at its business and government forum. At the forum, he discussed trade and cross-border business opportunities for local companies.
Exports to Canada accounted for 12.5 percent of Massachusetts’ total exports in 2015, the highest share of any foreign country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. W. Stuart Loosemore, general counsel and director of government affairs at the chamber, said the consul general’s interest in the area could lead to better business opportunities for manufacturers.
