With less than three weeks before the deadline for submitting proposals to the state, a Canadian company said it's looking at a site in Littleton as a possible location for a slots parlor.
The facility would be located within The Point, a 90-acre development near the junction of Route 119 and Interstate 495. Ground was broken in August for the $60-million, mixed-use project on land formerly known as the Cisco property.
According to a statement posted on the Littleton town website, the company, the Clairvest Group of Toronto, said The Point "has the potential to be the ideal location" for a slots parlor.
"At this time, Clairvest is only evaluating the potential for such a development, and has not submitted a formal application to the commonwealth or a proposal to the Town of Littleton. Should Clairvest decide to proceed, it is committed to a transparent process that meets the needs of all stakeholders," the statement read.
The Littleton Board of Selectmen will hold meetings next month to discuss the potential proposal, the town said. "Littleton officials have been approached by Clairvest, but no specific proposal has been submitted to the town," the website statement read. "As a result of Clairvest's interest, town officials have been familiarizing (themselves) with the (state's) gaming statute and the impacts of such operations in other communities.
Under the expanded gaming law passed last year by the Legislature and signed by Gov. Deval Patrick, the commonwealth will allow up to three resort-style casinos and one slots parlor. A site near Worcester's Kelley Square could also be in the running for the lone slots license. Earlier this month, published reports said a prominent Cambridge developer, Richard Friedman, is interested in building a slots parlor and hotel on a site owned by metals and aerospace manufacturer Wyman-Gordon.
However, Worcester city councilors are exploring the feasibility of taking that property by eminent domain.
