Caliper Shrinks Q1 Loss As Revenue Inches Up

Hopkinton medical device and technology developer Caliper Life Sciences Inc. said it lost $2.2 million in the first quarter on $28.7 million in revenue.

For the same period a year ago, the company reported a loss of $6.6 million and revenue of $28.5 million.

In the fourth quarter, the company made a $5.9 million profit on $37.7 million in revenue.

Cash and equivalents at the end of the quarter were $36.4 million compared to $38 million a year earlier.

The company said it expects revenue for 2010 to increase by between 4 percent and 6 percent compared to the previous year.

In 2009, the company reported revenue of $130.4 million and an $8.2 million loss. The company lost $68.3 million in 2008.
