Hopkinton-based Caliper Life Sciences Inc. reported a second quarter revenue decline and a net loss deeper than the loss it reported for the second quarter of 2007.
The company said the second quarter revenue drop from $35.3 million in 2007 to $34 million this year was due to contract delays and a $3.5 million decline in licensing and contract revenue. The company's second quarter net loss widened to $6.7 million from $6.3 million a year ago.
Caliper, which manufactures and markets a variety of specialized imaging technology for pharmaceutical and other research and also does contract research, said it did see growth in certain of its business units. Its discovery products and services segment grew 11 percent during the quarter and its imaging product line grew by 5 percent.
The company also continued "cost reduction actions," which brought its operating expenses down by $2.2 million.
