The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts has awarded nearly $700,000 in grants to 11 local organizations to support health improvements in the region.
A total of 72 grant applications were received this year, the foundation said in a press release Wednesday.
The grants total $694,516, the second-largest amount ever awarded in a single year, the foundation said.
The grants awarded include:
- GAAHMA, Inc. in Gardner – $98,275 for a women’s housing program.
- Heywood Hospital in Gardner – $92,976 for a community mental health center to treat substance abuse and behavioral health.
- Abby’s House in Worcester – $75,000 to renovate a thrift shop which subsidizes the Abby’s House shelter, housing and advocacy.
- The Barton Center for Diabetes Education in North Oxford – $67,000 for a technology update to implement electronic recording of data for people with Type 1 diabetes.
- HMEA in Millbury – $65,000 to pilot a program to help adults with autism retain employment at Dell/EMC and other local companies.
- Worcester Community Action Council – $62,000 for a banking program to address the financial needs of those living in poverty.
- Advocates, Inc. in Framingham – $57,365 to launch a jail diversion program to divert Hudson and Sudbury residents with mental health and substance abuse disorders from jail to treatment.
- Veterans, Inc. in Worcester – $55,800 to establish a billing and credentialing department at its clinical stabilization services facility to bill for third-party insurance reimbursement.
- Arms with Ethics – $55,000 for a program in collaboration with the Worcester Police Department and Worcester medical community to help prevent someone with mental health and substance abuse from accessing a gun.
- The Casa Project – $45,600 to renovate a training room for new volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in Worcester County Juvenile Court.
- Montachusett Inferfaith Hospitality Network in Leominster – $20,000 for to replace a roof on a homeless shelter.
