Buffalo textile firm talks with military, Soldier Systems Center

AccuMed Innovative Technologies, a Buffalo, NY-based developer of high-tech textiles, could potentially work with the Natick-based US Army Soldier Systems Center on developing wearable, protective gear for soldiers, should several military contracts come to fruition.

In a company release, AccuMed's Military Division expressed an interest in working with the Soldier Systems Center to develop supplemental protective solutions that will help protect soldiers from extreme weather and combat conditions.  Should the contracts be awarded, AccuMed may also collaborate with the Virginia-based Program Executive Office Soldier and Rapid Fielding Initiative.

The proposed contract could potentially represent between 3 and 4 million production units beginning in late 2007, worth up to $90 million over five years.  Jerry Whitaker, Chief of Public Affairs at the Soldier Systems Center, says currently no definitive plans have been made.
