Boston Scientific Corp. says physicians have implanted the first of a new line of defibrillation lead systems in patients in Europe.
The system, which the Natick-based company calls the Endotak Reliance Site defibrillation lead system, has also gained the CE mark, a European consumer safety designation.
Defibrillation leads are insulated wires that connect an implanted cardiac defibrillator to the heart and deliver “therapy” when needed. BSX said the new lead system reduces the size of what is already a miniscule device and simplifies the surgical process.
The implants were performed by three physicians in Germany and one in the Netherlands.
