A failed safety inspection has prompted the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to permanently close and tear down Boden Lane Bridge in Natick.
According to MassDOT, the bridge being hit by rail maintenance equipment prompted a detailed inspection. At that time, the MassDOT Highway Division determined the bridge is not safe for vehicles or pedestrians and must be replaced.
The bridge had carried traffic over the MBTA Worcester-Framingham Commuter Rail Line near West Natick Station in Natick. The bridge closure does not affect commuter rail service but a replacement schedule has not been finalized for the bridge.
MassDOT has partnered with the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority to temporarily provide shuttle service for pedestrians who use the Boden Lane Bridge so pedestrians may have access to the Natick Commuter Rail Station until a permanent solution is in place.
