The Worcester Bravehearts reported an average attendance of 1,602 for the 2022 season, up 30% from the previous year, including five sellouts.
This increase comes after the average attendance dropped from 2,574 in the 2019 season to 1,229 in 2021 after COVID restrictions prevented the team from selling tickets in 2020. The team played at Doyle Field in Leominster in 2020, but was not allowed to officially host fans.
In addition to returning from COVID restrictions, the Bravehearts also had to deal with the Worcester Red Sox competing for fans.
The Bravehearts responded by trying to provide a unique experience for fans.
“Some of the interactive and unique promotions you see at a Bravehearts game, you will never see anywhere else. We always strive for great customer service, but this year we put a big emphasis on entertainment as well. We had a 50-person conga line mid-game, players sitting with fans in the stands, and a game where we played kickball for an inning,” said Bravehearts Director of Fan Experience Donny Porcaro in a Monday press release.
“I don’t think many people believed us at first when we launched all of our new ideas. Once people came and saw the Worcester Bravehearts experience, they wanted to come back,” said Bravehearts General Manager Dave Peterson.
