Worcester and Framingham law firm Bowditch & Dewey is a new member — and the only law practice in New England — of a law-practice association with more than 250 members worldwide.
The firm, which has about 60 lawyers in offices in Worcester, Framingham and Boston, was chosen to join MSI Global Alliance, it announced Thursday.
"We thought it would be a great move for us and a great partnership," said Matthew Morris, a partner at Bowditch & Dewey.
As a member, Bowditch & Dewey can refer a client to another member practice, or be referred from elsewhere. In a recent case, Morris said, he contacted an MSI member in Taiwan because a Bowditch & Dewey client was looking for tax law help there, and the practice here wasn't too familiar with tax laws on the other side of the world.
Bowditch & Dewey considers the MSI membership to be an additional service to its clients and a competitive advantage compared to other mid-size firms.
In a statement, Tim Wilson, the chief executive of MSI, called Bowditch & Dewey "a well-established and highly-respected law firm with a strong reputation throughout New England.”
MSI says it has member firms in more than 100 countries. Only one other New England firm, an accounting practice in Boston called Abrams Little-Gill Loberfled PC, is a member of MSI.
