Boston Scientific settles global patent spat with Edwards Lifesciences after $180M payment

Major biotech player Boston Scientific and its California competitor Edwards Lifesciences are resolving a global patent spat in all courts around the world.

All pending cases or appeals in courts and patent offices will be dismissed with a one-time $180 million payment from Edwards to Marlborough-headquartered Boston Scientific.

No further royalties will be owed by either company and any injunctions currently in place will be lifted.

All other terms of the agreement are not being disclosed, the company’s said in a joint statement Tuesday morning.

The patent disputes between the companies included transcatheter aortic valves, mitral valve repair devices and left atrial appendage closure devices.
