Boston Scientific of Natick has agreed to buy a Minnesota company that makes catheters to treat chronically blocked coronary arteries.
The deal to buy privately held BridgePoint Medical Inc. of Minneapolis is expected to close in the fourth quarter. Financial terms were not disclosed.
The BridgePoint devices are designed to avoid having patients undergo invasive surgeries such as bypass, to restore blood flow to critical areas of the heart. They also allow many patients to go home within 24 hours after having a device inserted.
The BridgePoint system "is a compelling addition to our industry-leading suite of cardiology products," said Kevin Ballinger, president of the interventional cardiology division at Boston Scientific. "This acquisition strengthens our portfolio and demonstrates the Boston Scientific commitment to continued leadership in interventional cardiology."
The announcement comes three months after Boston Scientific announced it would acquire Cameron Health Inc., a California-based manufacturer of medical devices, in a deal valued at $150 million.
