The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce will be hosting players from both sides of the Boston Olympics debate next month as they discuss the potential implications for Worcester.
In two separate events, the chamber will bring in representatives from the Boston 2024 Partnership group, which is sponsoring the bid to bring the Games to Massachusetts in 2024, and the No Boston Olympics opposition group to Worcester. Both events will allow local business owners and chamber members to gain more information on the bid process, potential impacts from the Games, and Worcester’s potential involvement, according to the chamber.
The first event will be held Tuesday, March 10 and will feature Richard Davey, former state transportation secretary and now CEO of the Boston 2024 Partnership. He will discuss the benefits of the Boston Olympics and how the organization believes it can help accelerate the commonwealth’s long-term growth. The event will be held at the Hogan Center at the College of the Holy Cross Hogan from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
On Friday, March 13, the chamber will host Chris Dempsey and Kelley Gossett, who co-chair the No Boston Olympics Group. They will discuss their views that the Games will hurt the state and that it should maintain its focus on schools and rebuilding the state’s transportation infrastructure. The event will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the chamber offices at 446 Main St.
The two events are intended for chamber members and not open to the public. Members may RSVP to the chamber by emailing sloosemore@worcesterchamber.org and vparent@worcesterchamber.org for the Boston 2024 and No Boston Olympics events, respectively.
