The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection fined Boston Hides Limited Co. of Worcester $20,797 for illegally dumping wastewater and oil at its Worcester facility.
Boston Hides was dumping wastewater onto unpaved ground outside of its facility at 24 Jolma Road without a permit, according to a Tuesday press release from the DEP. The company has agreed to stop that discharge, test the soil impacted by their actions, and perform any cleanup deemed necessary.
MassDEP also found that Boston Hides illegally managed and transported waste oil.
“Boston Hides Limited Company illegally discharged industrial wastewater containing contaminants from animal hides causing potential contamination that now has to be addressed, and also failed to properly manage the waste oil they generated,” Mary Jude Pigsley, director of MassDEP’s Central Regional Office in Worcester, said in the press release. “The company has since stopped the illegal wastewater discharge and has corrected the waste oil violations.”
