Bose names Lila Snyder as first woman CEO

Audio equipment manufacturer Bose, headquartered in Framingham, has named Lila Snyder the company’s new CEO, the company confirmed Tuesday morning.

Snyder said in a Tweet she will assume the position on Sept. 1. She will be the first woman CEO in Bose's history, the company said. She will also join the company’s board of directors, according to her LinkedIn profile.

As Snyder takes over, Jim Scammon will remain at Bose as president and chief operating officer. Scammon replaced former CEO Phil Hess as interim head of the company in January, coinciding with news Bose would close all of its North American and European stores. At the time, Bose said the closures were due in large part to a larger migration to online shopping.

Snyder holds a doctorate and master of science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, as well as a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from the University of Miami, according to her LinkedIn.

Prior to joining Bose, she worked at Connecticut tech company Pitney Bowe, where she was most recently executive vice president and president of commerce services. She was with the company for nearly seven years.

The tech news website CNET first reported the news of Snyder's hiring as CEO.

Before Pitney Bowes, Snyder was a partner at consulting firm McKinsey & Co. in Stamford.
